We will be celebrating and honoring all women role models that brighten our lives and improve our communities. TMWF has chosen three honorees from local DFW leaders whose work aligns with the mission of TMWF in its empowerment, promotion, and support of ALL women and their families for the ultimate goal of stronger communities.
Yulise Reaves Waters is a Dallas Assistant City Attorney and Community Courts Prosecutor. Her desire to strengthen communities led her to co-found the first felony community court in Dallas County, the Second Chance Community Improvement Program Court (SCCIP). The SCCIP community prosecutors work with law enforcement and community organizations to assist young criminal offenders through life and career counseling to help them rebuild their lives and become productive citizens. Ms. Reaves Waters’ dedication as a public servant has earned her various accolades and recognitions from the City of Dallas, her alma mater as a distinguished SMU alumna, the Dallas Business Journal’s “40 under 40” young professionals, and the Oak Cliff Community Development Corporation for helping to renew the Oak Cliff Dallas community.
Hala Halabi is ICNA Relief Dallas Refugee Services’ Director. She began as a volunteer in 2011 focusing on developing ICNA Dallas’s food pantry, refugee facilitation, and car donation programs. The success of these programs, established Ms. Halabi and ICNA Relief Dallas as a trusted partner in the local Arab communities. When Syrian refugee families arrived to the DFW area, Ms. Halabi was appointed as the Director of Refugee Facilitation. Her tireless efforts empowered the newcomers’ to successfully settle and integrate into their new community.
Aisha Waheed is the Chairman and Chief Operations Officer of Maruf, a non-profit refugee resettlement organization in the DFW area. In its 12 years of existence, Maruf has resettled 2000 families (7500 individuals) locally. Ms. Waheed is dedicated to help her Maruf clients heal after their traumatic experiences of war and displacement. MARUF has established a four-month program that provides financial support, housing, medical assistance, education, and employment. The program’s goal is to help clients heal by establishing a sense of stability, security, and independence through learning skills for their self-empowerment. Ms. Waheed leads a team of volunteers who share her passion and dedication to advocate for social justice by “putting their faith into action” and serving those in need.
