Our Inspiration

In 2013, Dallas community member Zahra Khan was diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cancer at the age of 20.

At the time, Zahra was a candidate for a Master's in Clinical Psychology. She was well known in the community for her passion to serve, having volunteered at local hospitals and institutes. She had intended to continue giving back to her community after completing her Ph.D. program.

After fighting patiently and gracefully for four months, Zahra passed away on July 1, 2013. Her loved ones decided to continue her legacy of compassion and care by establishing the Zahra Khan Support Program (ZKSP).

Supporting Patients and Their Families

We understand that caregiving for a loved one with a terminal illness or injury can be exhausting and challenging. We recognize the emotional toll this can take on families, and aim to bring ease and comfort in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment.

Over the years, the ZKSP has supported and assisted clients dealing with a range of illnesses - various cancers, kidney failure, acid trauma/blindness, and more.

Grieving families should only have to worry about caring for their loved ones, so we strive to provide assistance and resources with compassion.

Ways We Have Supported our Clients

  • Setting up appointments with respective specialty physicians for first and/or second opinions
  • Application assistance for public benefits, such as Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security Administration, and SSI disability
  • Providing financial care to clients and their families
  • Providing counseling services to clients and their families
  • Arranging Department of Aging and Disability Services
  • Arranging funeral services for deceased patients
  • Courtesy visits to clients and their families
  • Academic counseling to surviving children
